Dear Dr. Huberman, I am reaching out for guidance as I navigate several significant challenges in my life. I have been diagnosed with multiple mental health conditions, including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD—formerly PPD-NOS), Major Depression (with two previous suicide attempts), Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and I previously experienced agoraphobia for ten years, though I have since overcome it. I am currently enrolled in college, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Psychology, Philosophy, and Cybersecurity. However, I am facing difficulties following a recent divorce and the need to rely on others for my well-being. At present, I have less than $34 to my name, which is alarming given my diabetes and the associated risks of low blood sugar. I struggle with a pervasive sense of failure and anxiety, feeling that I cannot meet the challenges ahead. Although I served in the military and have experience as a martial arts instructor from over 30 years ago, I feel my failures overshadow my successes. Now at 50 years old, I am acutely aware of my need for financial stability but have been dependent on others since I turned 25. Despite having held managerial positions in various jobs, my history with agoraphobia has negatively impacted my work references, making it difficult to explain without disclosing my mental health issues. I find myself immobilized, unable to take action towards finding a job or achieving consistent stability. I recognize the need to address my behavioral patterns and seek financial assistance, yet I struggle to take the necessary steps. I am reaching out for advice on how to overcome these barriers, find motivation, and create a path forward. Any insights or suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
