  • Introspection Flaws

reveals that traditional introspection methods often fail due to our inability to access unconscious thoughts. She shares a study where participants confidently justified their choices of identical pantyhose, unaware of their unconscious biases 1. This highlights the illusion of introspection, where people latch onto seemingly true but incorrect reasons for their actions.

All of these participants had been asked to introspect. To say, I made a choice and I am now going to think about the reasoning behind that choice. Everyone immediately could find a reason that they were extremely confident about. But they were just as wrong as they were confident.

Tasha emphasizes that while introspection can be effective, most people do it wrong by asking "why" instead of "what" questions, leading to unproductive and often harmful self-analysis 2.

Additionally, she stresses the importance of asking "what" questions during stressful times to activate logical thinking and avoid the pitfalls of "why" questions 4.

    Emotional Reflection

Tasha discusses the power of emotional reflection through daily check-ins. She suggests asking three key questions: "What went well today?", "What didn't go well?", and "How can I be smarter tomorrow?" 5. This practice promotes proactive introspection without falling into common traps.

Almost every unicorn we talked to had some type of daily check-in that they did at the end of the day.

By focusing on "what" questions, individuals can better manage their emotions and develop actionable insights, enhancing their self-awareness 2.
